" Teur et Ruban Robe" Art Column-The Tower of Babel-Blessing

The Tower of Babel-Blessing

The image used in this product is the smaller version of the "Tower of Babel (DeToren van Babel)" by Flemish artist Pieter Bruegel. The Tower of Babel is a huge tower that appeared in the Old Testament book of Genesis. It was the story of mankind challenging God and trying to build a tower that reached to the heaven, then destroyed by God. There are three paintings of the Tower of Babel by Bruegel, and only two remained, "The (Great) Tower of Babel" in the collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna and "The (Little) Tower of Babel" in the collection of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Both works are oil paintings on wood panels. In Bruegel's Tower of Babel, he used the typical arched architectural style which is often seen in ancient Roman architecture. This is thought to mimic the Colosseum in Rome.

In the design of printing for the dress, our designer placed the Tower of Babel in the middle, the surrounding are little angels blowing the trumpet of blessing and red roses slowly floating down from the sky. This image depicts a scene of a soul slowly rising in blessing, gradually surpassing the tower, reaching the sky and floating towards to the gods. What the designer wanted to emphasize in this design is self-affirmation. A person cannot be satisfied only by affirmation and recognition from other people. Only when they can discover, acknowledge and accept the beautiful qualities within themselves, will their hearts be filled with true satisfaction and happiness, and their souls will receive God's grace and ascend to heaven.
