Elaborately crafted Dollhouse
In the design of the dress we used the image of Dolls’ house of Petronella Oortman , one of the collections of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, to create a world both rich in history and elegance.
Dolls’ house of Petronella Oortman, is one of the most famous and perfectly preserved doll's houses in the world, and its first owner was a dutch woman named Petronella Oortman. She was the daughter of a gun-maker and one of seven siblings; in 1686 Oortman remarried to wealthy silk merchant Johannes Brandt, and the dollhouse was built as a memorial present. 。
The Dolls' House was created by furniture makers from France and is said to have taken 20 years to complete. There are nine rooms in total inside, such as a domestic room, a kitchen and a dining room. The painters Willem Frederiksz van Royen and Johannes Voorhout each made the murals for the games room and decorations for the tapestry room. The interior and the furniture on display were all made from real-life materials and the proportions of each room were accurately reproduced. The pots in the kitchen were made of copper and the plates displayed on the shelves were ordered from the Dutch East India Company and imported from China. This magnificent piece, with its tortoiseshell work and inlay, is estimated to have cost between 20,000 and 30,000 guilders, enough to build a mansion in the centre of Amsterdam at the time.
In this way, we were able to get a small glimpse of the life of the wealthy Dutch in the 17th century through its realistic and artistic construction.
